Hey everyone - I'm moving to DC the middle of October. We should have a reunion, or at least go out and get drunk like the night before Karyn's wedding.

Crazy night in Cartagena:

Hello guys,

I can't post this on my family blog, so it has to go here.....I went out last saturday night with a guy Richy, the mate on a 76' sailboat here in the marina. He came by about 9:30 seeing if I wanted to head out. We didn't really know where to go so we got in the car he had rented and drove out to Boca Grande looking for a nightclub or disco, or even a cool bar. We couldn't find anything, so we stoped at the Hilton and asked a cabdriver. Thank god for high school spanish, but boy, I could barely understand a word he said....I got Centro (old city) and Calle Largo (calle is street).

We headed that way, parked the car and found a cool old salsa bar on the second floor of a building. I ordered a beer and a cuba libre, handed the guy a 20,000 peso note (about $10) and was shocked when he said it was 24,000.....every other beer I have bought was 2500 pesos. Whatever....a beautiful place to watch the scenery. We went into the old city as we had seen some flashing lights and loud music near the wall when driving about....we arrive on a private party with about 20 girls in white dresses hanging out by the entrance....realizing they are WAY too young we turn around. A question to what must of been one of the kids parents confirmed a quince anos party (sweet 15th). After feeling appropriatly skeevy and thinking of what you all would say, we then headed to this other bar which is located in an old fort overlooking the harbor....very cool.

The place was full of late 30's men with two ridiculously hot women each. As Richy said, there are so many hot chicks in this town you almost begin to feel they are in your league....that said, I imagine most were being paid. The deal here is that it is socially acceptable for young women (usually college students) to accept money to "date" a guy for a night....there are no strings attached, but assuming you aren't a sleeze, you can expect them to come home with you after wining and dining. This is different then the true professionals that apparently abound as well (of course I can't seem to find either...jk). We had a few beers there admiring the chicas and then headed to find a disco. We moved the car back to the marina and found a couple of discos just down the street. We went into the one with the most people outside (10,000 peso cover).

We walk up to the bar and order two cuba libre's.....lo siento (sorry), they don't sell individual drinks....after some confusion, we gather there is ONLY bottle service....crap. 80,000 pesos ($40) later we have a crapton of limes, two cokes, and a bottle of rum for two people in this crazy cave of a club with a birthday party in the back part and what sure seemed like high school kids in the front with a couple of groups of normal aged people in the middle. It was getting late (3:00 am) but all was going well, we befriended an Ausie kid (20) who was hanging with the young kids (they could have been in college) and were hanging around them when a couple of people walked out of the bar. As the chick walked by she turned around and slugged me on the arm (CRAZY LATINA CHICK). All I can imagine is someone grabbed her ass and she assumed it was me. Then her boyfriend comes after me knocking Richy to the ground and giving him two wicked bruises. One of the other kids held him back and the lights came on and security cleared him out of the place. In classic fashion this was the only guy in the bar above 5'-10" and 135 lbs being close in size to me. I heeded Richy's advise, went to the bathroom to give him time to leave and save face. About 10 mins later we headed out, fists clenched ready to do what it took to leave in case he was outside. All was fine, we hopped in the first cab we could find and got the hell out of dodge.

I slept the next day till 3:00 in the afternoon and still felt like crap the till monday morning. Memorable and fun, but not worth repeating. Hope all is well with everyone else. Follow my travels (what I can tell my family) at VofJ.blogspot.com

Time for my annual "Donate" post. The WAF ends June 30th, and many of you have yet to contribute.

After all these years, I thought I'd gotten past the stage of sinking ships in GHS. Oh well, some things never change.

I know those economic stimulus checks are in the mail...anyone consider donating them to Webb? Might not stimulate the economy, but may make you feel good...

Jill Compton (and Roger) says hello to everyone. She wanted to hear all the latest gossip (didn't have too much to share) and was wondering how everyone was doing.

Hope you all are well.

Let me dust off the mothballs that have accumulated on this site and remind everyone that the with the arrival of Spring the window to donate to the Webb Alumni Fund is closing. Please make your donations for the 07-08 campaign as soon as possible.

I realize the economy is down, but whatever you can muster is much appreciated. Please try to match your contribution last year, and any additional would be appreciated. Of course, if you double your donation, John Malone would be extremely happy.

Happy 2008 fellow 02ers! Hope everyone had a great holiday season and is off to a good start for 2008. Any exiciting news out there? Not that this is exciting, but I went on Sea Trials with USS Georgia (totally sweet experience) and we delivered her right before Xmas. Now I am back in the ghetto/Newport News as an EB liason working Virginia Class. Weird going back there, since I had worked there about 4 years ago before I headed over to the SSGN conversions. Started back there this week, so it's been a little bit Deja Vu/Twilight Zone, but I think I can get over it.

There. I am done borinig you all...

02ers....what is up with everone else????

Here's a good idea being passed around... And Gram, I hereby substitute the word "holiday" for Christmas.

When you are making out your Christmas card list this year, please
include a card to the following:
A Recovering American soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center

If you approve of the idea, please pass it on to your e-mail list.

Anyone either want to come work near Baltimore or know someone who does? We're looking to get another Nav Arch, about our level of experience-ish.

Desperation can do wonderful things to the paycheck, I'm thinking...

So much for the "No More Caliendo Party." I just signed up for the SNAME PE Review Course, and last year's Fundamentals section was taught by the infamous man. Hopefully they'll change instructors for 2008 (when I'll be doing the 'classroom' stuff), or I may SHOOT myself.

Petrie had Structures (blech) and Hennings had Electrical (okay), as well. I'm glad that so far I still have NO IDEA what I'm getting myself into.

A wonderful wedding weekend in Northern Michigan.

Overheard over the weekend....

"I Plead the 5--Tee--H" -- Johanna referring to her booty shaking demonstration.

"I think they are having a moment" -- Jenelle referring to Corey and Constable's late night skinny dipping session.

"Come dance....what do you have a 'Sandy Vagina'" -- Carolyn (Corey's B-school friend)
"I don't have a sandy vagina....I have a wet and supple vagina" -- Katie (Jenelle's teacher friend)
--Followed by at least one hour of vagina talk at table 12.

It was great to see you guys and congrats again to Corey and Jenelle

So here's an interesting quote...

Just a friendly reminder that June is the last month in which you can donate to the 2006-07 alumni fund campaign. Please pony up and thank you to those who already have.

Dudes, Homecoming. Anyone going? I'll be there, less puppies.

(Yes, we're trying again. The big hound didn't work, but a second beagle seems to be just fine...)

Hey guys,
I received my 4th email from John Malone asking what is wrong with us other than Karyn. So far we have 1 out of 17 donations, and no more talk on a class gift. So I urge you all to please reach a little bit deeper into your pockets, and pony up some contributions. Maybe you're getting a decent tax return? Signing bonus? Relocation expense? Promotion? New Job?

Anyways, we need to contribute and try to hit 100% participation. I also want to remind you that in addition to the alumni fund, the capital campaign needs our $$ as well. Think about the opportunities you've had and the recent promotions, job offers, etc. that we've been able to recieve partly b/c of Webb, and be generous.

As far as a cooler, I'll send some emails and try to figure out what it might cost to get a new one installed as a class gift. I think its fitting for the Class of 02, since we downed 100 beers in record time 5 short years ago!

New cooler... Interesting. Maybe we could put a stipulation on it that all '02 drinks for free. Is anyone thinking of going to Webb in May? If we did do something it might be a good time if several of us where there.

Hope everyone is doing well.
